Simulation Task List Updated 2019

Potential Tasks for Detector Area Simulation

  1. look closely at the residual source of photons from the upstream collimator regions to see if they can be further reduced
  2. replace the outer kryptonite shield with the properly tuned lintels and 3 downstream collars
  3. review the current status of the beam dump background and its impact on the detector plane region
  4. construct the geometry of the detector PMT shielding, combine with backgrounds coming from the light guide and quartz tiles, and evaluate the final background levels at the main detector PMTs

Potential Standard Plots and Numbers for Benchmark

  1. Radial plots at detector area from Moller, ep and beam generator
  2. Rates for Moller, ep, and photons from beam generator (E<10, 10<E<100, E<100)
  3. 2D scatter plots at detector area from Moller, ep and beam generator
  4. 2D Raster pattern at the upstream end of the target using Moller, ep and beam generator
  5. 2D Raster pattern at the entrance to the beam dump using Moller, ep and beam generator

Agenda

  • Immediate simulation tasks to complete - KK
    • Cip’s concern about space where MC files are stored
    • Review Sakib’s main results on the signal and primary backgrounds and a breakdown of the sources of electron, positron and positron background
    • review the 2-bounce geometry and make a decisions about the final outer edge of collimator 2
    • review electron and photon envelopes for final geometry and address any lingering 1-bounce sources
    • Understand the differences between the beam MC and the primary generators for the signal and electron/positron background
    • review the Chandan/Cip/Kent shielding model, incorporate Sakib’s final geometry and ensure results are consistent
    • set up the outer beam pipe, lintel and collar geometry and optimize both for 2-bounce and charged particle backgrounds
    • review the 2-bounce tungsten tube length and understand what 500-1000 MeV beam charged particles are doing (since they head out towards the outer beam pipes due to the fringe fields)
    • document the radiation caused by collimator 5
    • review the beam dump geometry and ensure that any background generated is included in looking at detector/PMT backgrounds
    • is shower-max splash back a serious issue for the thin detector PMTs?
    • put in shower-max into the main geometry so splash-back is included
    • Review the radiation load at the detector PMTs
    • provide radiation numbers at the PMTs and the electronics bunker to Dustin and Michael
    • optimize the 18-tile segmentation to have good background subtraction as well as LAMs (tiles with very little signal)
    • morph 18 tiles to 20 tiles (additional segmentation of ring 5)
  • GIT repository updates - Wouter

Attendance

Attendance: KK, Rakitha, Dustin, Juliette, Ciprian, Chandan, Kent

Minutes

  • Simulation files storage, we need to find a better way to keep root files longer since they are in volatile
  • 2- bounce study Chandan and Juliette
    • the outer radius of col-2 increased 103 mm from 98 mm, Sakib estimated the FOM change for this change. Can we do 101 mm for now? and fine-tune this during next month or so?
    • Juliette's drawExperiment.C script showing acceptance and collimator constraints. Chandan showed two-bounce results regarding this col-2 opening. Slide 33 table.
  • Sakib's has ideal shielding in US, but we need to put realistic shielding. Cip, Chandan, and Sakib
  • Tuning the lead-collar in front of the showermax detector. Cip
  • Next meeting day 23rd, 27th Have something by 2nd of Jan.
  • Our goal is to provide radiation numbers at the PMTs and the electronics bunker to Dustin and Michael by end of January
  • We will also need Dose and Power deposited on Collimator, and coils.
