Minutes
- (Elham) Mechanical Design updates: have created a mechanical design with 3D printed parts only; shell is 2 mm thick, width of lucite 21 cm. Have a pattern of holes for bolting to angle brackets. Still being worked on. Plan is to complete mechanical design in two weeks; then will make a prototype, test mount to angle brackets, perhaps in a mocked-up "donut" cavity, and test light-tightness. The present idea is that the lucite is wrapped in Tyvek and sits snugly in the 3D printed box. Probably glue PMT to lucite; if need to repair/replace one detector (probably the PMT is the only thing that might go bad), would replace entire module, so don't have to make the PMT easily removable from the lucite/box. Cylindrical shell for the PMT - might moved to a threaded connection. Will get cost estimate for the 3D printing, and various parts.
- (Elham) Looked at impact of reducing lucite width from 23 cm to 21 cm (as required by space constraints in pion donut cavity) - looks like only a marginal effect. Rate of photoelectrons from pi's and from Mollers are only slightly reduced; pi/e photoelectron ratio reduced slightly from 76.4% to 72.6%. Seems quite acceptable.
- (Elham) started work on checking efficiency of our pion generator.
- (all) We will probably skip next week's meeting.
