Updates on pion detector studies (Elham)
- Changed concrete donut to lead: decreases pions but no impact on electron background at low energies
  - Is more shielding bad? More hadronic interaction of pions, but not affected by shielding
- Changed showermax lightguide to vacuum: increase rate of low energy electrons
Pion detector updates (David)
- What enters and exits the showermax?
  - Picture of primaries leaving the showermax: the transition showermax detectors are where the primaries 'miss' the showermax
  - No pathological angles between sectors
  - Showermax should be staggered in r as well as z
  - Same issue when changing donut concrete to lead
- Are the particles hitting the back of the donut with angles less than 3.2 degree nominal angle?
- Pion detector sees fair sample of pions, similar to what the showermax (and ring 5) sees
- TODO:
  - Stagger showermax in radius; tilt showermax by angle of 3.2 degrees
  - Taper donut to shallower outer angle of 2.8 degrees
  - Reduce phi acceptance of lucite, with pion rates as baseline
