Agenda

  1. Kate - verbal update - in the process of making all of the CSV files
  2. Vassu - machine learning

Attendance

Sayak, Andrew, David, Vassu, Juliette, Bill, Paul S.

Minutes

  1. (David, for Kate) - For the magnetic field study, made all the root files (including sieve rotations) and in the process of generating the CSV files. There are 27 different configurations which each require 21 polygons drawn, so it takes a while. In future hope we use Tyler's method for automatically selecting holes soon. Note that (confirmed by Juliette) previous optics simulations work has not used the most up-to-date. The standard symmetric field maps should be, usptream toroid: V2U.1a.50cm.parallel.txt, and downstream toroid: subcoil_2_3_3mm_full.txt. Notes are here: [1]
  2. (Bill) - completing report on the MySQL database for storing the SBU GEM HV testing results. Will discuss with UVa folks to see if they want to adopt same format, or if they have suggestions on changing the format.
  3. (Vassu) - has attempted to do the optics fits using ML techniques: a) Neural Net and b) Random Forest regression. Many hyper parameters to search (used grid search). In both cases trying to fit single 12C foil simulations from all 4 passes simultaneously to extract theta. The best fit results were similar in both approaches, which unfortunately were significantly worse in both the mean and width of the residual distributions. Will return to our standard polynomial regression for now. Will return to looking at extracting z-vertex from GEM variables.
