Minutes

  1. (Chandika)Looked at seismic (0.1g) and modal analysis of Rotator and Stand. Stresses look OK, and maximum deflection 0.4 mm - but concern is that this calculation doesn't include the spreading force from GEM wheel weight under sideways 0.1g. Discussed ways to get at that contribution. Calculation takes long time (2 days) - maybe need to de-feature the 80/20 Al struts to speed up analysis.
  2. (Chandika)Buckling analysis of stand. Load factor -21 (negative sign means weight of GEMs applied in opposite direction, so not meaningful) for first modal shape. Need to look at the modes with positive and small load factors.
  3. (Chandika) Static deflections of combined Rotator and Stand model look OK. Max deflection 1 mm in vertical, 0.5 mm along beam, 04 mm transverse to beam.
  4. (Robin,Ryan) How to mount stand to floor? Do we need adjustments for all 6 degrees of freedom? Don't need to adjust displacement along beamline, but do need some adjustments in other 5 d.o.f. Robin will send examples of cartridge mechanisms, and grout specifications.
