Agenda

  1. Updates from Ryan B. (Pb donut/beampipe)
  2. Updates from Larry B. (main detectors and SMax)
  1. AOB

Attendance

David A., Justin G., Paul S., Kate E., Devi A., Krishna K., Ryan B., Sudip B., Dustin M., Chandika A., Larry B., Carl Z., Mark P., Chandan G., Michael G.

Minutes

  1. Ryan Biraben
    • Adding angle-bracket fasteners for fins to beam pipe. Fasteners bolted to fins and welded to beam pipe.
    • Pb donut welded to fins; Larry asks if that should be permanent (welding) or removable connection?
    • Could we add the missing fin (for pion GEM detectors) back, because we now have 28 smaller pion detectors in azimuth, so may not need that gap.
    • Ryan will look to see if that helps him, and David will see if pion GEM detectors can live without the gap.
    • Having trouble finding fabricator for Pb donut Al casing - because of difficulty with large Aluminum welds. Larry will suggest other vendors. Larry also suggests possibility that it be forged rather than welders.
    • Ryan, Robin Wines and Jessie Butler have discussed procedure for assembly of the donut/conical beampipe in the Hall. Will start with it vertical for assembly, then crane to rotate to horizontal.
  2. Larry Bartozsek slides: DocDB/870
    • Can ShowerMax be supported from Main Detector support assembly?
    • ShowerMax is probably best supported on its own rollers, and cantilevered (bridge-beams) from main detector assembly.
    • Assembly will be same process for ShowerMax as for main detectors: start at top, add a segment, rotate 180 degrees, add a segment, rotate... this way always only one unbalanced segment.
    • Looked at Hertzian contact stresses at rollers. Constrains which Al alloy we can use for outer ring and rollers (can't use 6061 Al, but other stronger alloys such as 7075 will work) and lower limit on roller diameter.
  3. All: Discussion of alignment tolerances for main detector segments; minimizing by making things stiff enough to avoid tolerance stack up - try to avoid needing too many alignment adjustment features.
