- (Chandika) GEM Rotator model using V-grooves on two wheels instead of cam-followers. Displacements look OK. However, seems to have large forces along the beam direction, which causes large (up to 8 mm) displacements in the stand. Suspect that having V-grooves at both ends causes over constraint? Will try with V-groove constraint only at one wheel, with simple cam-followers (cylinder rolling over wheel at other wheel). Chandika will do this. Also, suggestion that the complicated Bosch 80/20 model could be replaced by simpler rectangular Al beams with same modulus*moment of inertia, to reduce computation time for the moment. Some discussion of seismic load criteria. Nominal is 1/10 g, i.e. 10% of the weight of the load, applied as a static load in horizontal directions. Here larger deflections could be tolerated as long as they don't cause the rotator to run into nearby devices (i.e. the beam pipe). Chance of reaching elastic limit is negligible.
