- DAQ plans at UMASS
- The GEM test stand currently existing there can support readout over the VME backplane from the three GEMs (using two MPDs)
- Some tests, such as investigating different HDMI cable lengths, can be done with this setup; Chandan hopes to have a summer student to work on this
- The VTP readout which SBS will use requires a VXS_QSFP card for each set of four MPDs. The QSFP connectors on the VTP itself are reserved for the data output
- The MPD cards each need to have a SFP transceiver added (the boards already have a place for the transceiver)
- The VXS_QSFP cards also need a QSFP transceiver.
- The connection from QSFP to the four SFP will go through a fiber breakout cable
- Question added later: for the final installation should these be a single cable of the full length, or would we have short breakout cables coupled to long QSFP-supporting cables? Or even long cables which carry signals for more than one QSFP connection?
- Needs for upgrading the test stand to work with VTP readout
- VXS crate --- Either bought by UMass or bought from by MOLLER-NSF and loaned; need to get list of all test-stand components to compare to MOLLER-NSF Y1 budget
- VTP module --- JLab-designed; can be borrowed?
- VXS_QSFP card --- JLab-designed; can be borrowed?
- 1 QSFP transceiver --- COTS
- 2 SFP transceivers --- COTS
- Breakout fiber cable --- COTS

- General discussion
- Hanjie and Chandan mention wanting to get both a counting and integrating DAQ at UMass, and thus also to have one of the switching bases
- Some discussion about thinking about the sort of tests they might want to do, and thus do they want to have prototype versions (where they are testing the prototype) or production versions (where they are using the systems to test detectors, etc).
- We should think about the sort of tests that we want to do, to ensure that we don't forget something and to avoid unwanted duplication of effort
