Agenda

  1. Lucite detector shielding from downstream and at inner radius (Elham) [1]

Attendance

Elham, Wouter, David, Jim

Minutes

  • Lucite detector shielding from downstream and at inner radius
    • 3 geometries: "original" with lucite far downstream of Pb donut, "new" with thinner/shorter lucite just downstream of Pb donut, "shielded new" with additional shielding
    • "new" geometry avoids showermax secondaries into lucite in other sector
    • However, still only 10% of light is from Moller electron generator, while there are still 100 times more pions
    • Possible ideas are both low energy electrons and the optical geometry selecting for the backgrounds over forward going pions
    • "shielded new" removes low energy particles that are hitting the lucite when moving backwards
    • Q: What happens if we change the air to vacuum again? How much does scattering of air direct secondaries from the showermax back into the top of lucite detector?
    • Q: How many primary electrons still reach the lucite? Is there punchthrough?
    • Q: Can we replace the donut by a wall with a hole in simulation?
    • Q: Canonical thickness of downstream inner radial lead shielding would be 4". Can this be increased?
    • Q: Diffuse reflection on the lucite surfaces? Fermilab approach.
